Peter Foucault: External Influences

External Influences is an exhibition that will explore the collaborative process between human and machine through the medium of drawing. Peter Foucault has developed circumstances in which small robots will interact with Bay Area visual, performance and sounds artists, and the public to create a series of large-scale, abstract drawing compositions. What is unique about External Influences is that the majority of the works being shown will be created on-site at the Richmond Art Center over the course of the exhibition, transforming the gallery into an active project space that will constantly be generating new images, ideas and synchronicities.

During the length of the exhibit, a number of exciting events will be hosted by guest artists onsite at the Richmond Art Center. The artists will be interacting with the robots to affect the evolution of the exhibit. Dates, times, and descriptions of these events will be listed in our monthly Enewsletter. The Neighborhood Public Art Project

This exhibition will highlight the projects created during the current cycle of the Neighborhood Public Art Project. The Neighborhood Public Art Project is a community collaboration between the City of Richmond, the Richmond Arts and Culture Council and the Richmond Art Center with additional support from the San Francisco Foundation.
NPA has served as an innovative model for community engagement by providing a platform to seed and nurture community based art practices in Richmond, CA. Over a nine-month period, community organizations are partnered with professional artists, who work together to develop and produce new temporary or permanent public artworks of their own design. Current projects are taking place in collaboration with the Shields-Reid Community Center, the Laurel Park Neighborhood Council, the Parchester Village Community Center, The Tent City Peace Movement, The Richmond Main Street Initiative, and Familias Unidas.
