Early Bird Discount. Register by March 12 and receive a 5% discount.

Scholarships available for teens taking adult classes.
Application deadline March 12, 2010.

All weaving classes share a 16-shaft AVL loom for sampling and drafting practice.

DROP-IN POLICY: Per day drop-ins are allowed in some adult classes with the consent of the instructor or where noted in the description. Students may drop-in ONLY 3 times before they are required to purchase a half or full class (no other fractional classes allowed), unless otherwise noted.

Join this class of beginning and experienced weavers for individual attention planning and designing a woven project. Weekly discussions and critiques. We have added MAC and PC drafting programs to assist designing on our looms with 4 to 16 shafts.

Simple or complex, colorful or neutral, smooth or textured; students will find their own balance of elements. Students may elect to pursue individual projects. Beginners will learn the fundamentals of weaving. Those interested in dyeing will work with the method known as free dyeing, in which the threads are set out on a table and become a blank canvas to be painted with dye.

Learn or review ways to crochet a hat in the round. All you need is a bag of interesting yarn and a crochet hook (size G or H). Ways to add color, pattern, beads and small appendages will be introduced for your amusement. Bring scissors, yarn and a hook.

Learn to use a simple drop spindle to make unique yarn for knitting, weaving, etc. The portable spindle makes yarn from raw or prepared wool just like those made on a spinning wheel, only it works more slowly & costs much less. This is a good class for anyone who wants to try out the basic techniques before deciding to buy a wheel. Spindles & fibers provided for class use.

spring sewn hat    

Carol Wood

Learn the basics of sewn hat construction and stitch a spring chapeau, make a bonnet to give for Mom’s Day or a hat to match an outfit in your closet. We will cover measuring for hat placement, altering a commercial pattern, interfacing the hat, wiring a brim and trimming techniques. Use Vogue V8405 a versatile hat pattern which includes a choice of crowns and brims. Learn to alter the brim for more options! If you wish, bring your favorite hat pattern to make instead. You’ll come away with a basketful of techniques and chic trimming ideas. Bring a portable sewing machine.
