Instructor: Lisa di Prima (for ages 6 - 13)

In this special four-week class, children will experience the joy of creating by trying their hand at a wide variety of art experiences such as acrylic painting, collage, clay sculpture, puppet-making and printmaking. Using modern and traditional art materials, students will create both 2- and 3-D artwork. The emphasis is on originality, having fun while learning fine art skills and building self-esteem through accomplishment.

teen mural painting   

Instructor: Lisa di Prima  (for ages 10 - 16)

Create a big, beautiful, exciting, colorful mural at the Richmond Art Center. Using high quality acrylic paints, students will learn how to work cooperatively planning the mural, preparing the surface and then painting on a grand scale. Express your hopes and dreams for yourself and the Art Center community. Learn the history of murals throughout the world. Be inspired and inspire others

clay, games & miniatures

Instructor: Kiki Rostad  (for ages 6 - 10)

Play in clay and learn techniques to create your own board game. Projects include a small brain bowl, pocket bear, puppet and then the game pieces. Wood, magnets, Sculpey & Shrinky Dinks complete the game of your dreams. The last day is a potluck celebration when all projects go home. Wear work clothes.

pottery on the wheel  

Instructor: Kiki Rostad  (for ages 11 - 16)

Students will be introduced to the potter’s wheel and hand-building projects. The complete cycle of working with clay will be experienced including drying, firing and glazing. Each week a different project will be presented including mug/birdhouse, brain bowl, book/jewelry box. Students direct clean up. The last day is a potluck celebration when all projects go home. Wear work clothes.

Instructor: Lisa di Prima

Have fun creating your own original characters and caricatures, inventing imaginary heroes, heroines, villains and creatures. Design "surprise panels" and "zoom" drawings. Learn a wide range of exciting cartooning techniques using drawing, painting and sculptural media including Sharpies, tempera, pastels and clay.

Learn basic screen-printing techniques with a focus on fabric. Print T-shirts or other clothing, bandanas, create unique scarves, quilts – the possibilities are endless. This class will also include adults.

robot laboratory     FREE!

Instructor: Lauren Ari (for ages 8 and up)

Take your junk and make a klunk. Construct a non-animated robot from recycled materials with artist Lauren Ari as your guide. We will walk through the Clayton Bailey exhibition of robots for inspiration and then go back to the “mad scientist laboratory” and assemble a creation of your wildest dreams. Recycled materials provided including cans, tubes, wire, bric a brac & paint but bring materials to incorporate if you wish. Parents, family members and adults are welcome to stay and play.

Please note: For all children's classes, we encourage you to enroll early so that we may have an accurate student count one week prior to the start of classes. We can then create a waiting list for classes that have reached their capacity or give families more notice if a class must be cancelled due to low enrollment. Security rules require that parents come into the Art Center to drop off and pick up children.
